About Me

Hi, I'm Cameron Melka,
a freelance video editor.

I like to claim 18 years of video editing experience, tracing my love for the craft back to 8-year-old me learning how to use iMovie to edit a few clips I shot. While the bulk of my professional work has been over the last 5 or so years, my personal and hobby projects growing up allowed me to hone my skills and familiarize myself with the tools needed to become an efficient editor.

While I favor Premiere Pro, my skill set also includes Final Cut 7 & X, DaVinci Resolve, and Avid. I can adapt my approach to fit any project needs and navigate different software environments with ease.

Beyond editing, I'm adept at creating motion graphics, titles, and simple VFX in After Effects, and I have experience leveraging Photoshop to craft graphics and logos.

Education

I graduated California State University Long Beach in 2019 with a BA in Film and Electronic Arts and a specialization in Editing.

Additional Skills

My experiences aren't just limited to editing. For the last couple of years, I've been working in various IT and Tech Support roles, including for Sony Pictures Animation/Imageworks. This experience has provided me with robust problem-solving skills that minimize downtime when tech hiccups arise.

I've also honed my audio post-production skills using Avid Pro Tools and Adobe Audition and have color grading experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

Hobbies

When I'm not cutting, you'll often find me at my workbench tinkering. I enjoy breathing new life into old electronics and video game consoles, and I've even designed and built a couple of keyboards from scratch.

My creative spirit also extends into the fantasy worlds of Dungeons & Dragons, a game I've been playing since 2017. I've even published some 3rd party material for 5th Edition which you can check that out in the Dungeons & Dragons section of this site.

Published D&D 5e Homebrew

I've been playing D&D for several years now, and I love to write and create homebrew content to expand the game. Below are a few projects that I'm particularly proud of.

The Five Stones was created whilst I was running Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden and is intended to be supplemental to that adventure. It's a relatively straightforward adventure that tries to add some humor into a barren and frozen wasteland.

The Crumbling Stair was the first adventure I wrote and published. It is based on a dungeon that was only briefly mentioned in passing in the lore of the Forgotten Realms. I tried to put my own spin on the location, and make it a challenge that feels rewarding to complete.

I submitted a subclass for inclusion in Galder's Gazetteer and then ended up assisting the team with playtesting and designing some other content that other community members had submitted as ideas. This book supports a great cause and was a ton of fun to work on!
